Sensational Salcombe

The Moult is Salcombe’s iconic pink house. One of the finest private houses on the British coast. Once owned by the Earl of Devon now you too can live the romantic dream at The Moult. The Moult in Salcombe has even created and launched its very own Moult Gin. With a batch of 300 limited edition bottles ready and waiting, every set of guests visiting the house will be gifted a bottle (until they’re all gone, of course...)

Gardens and Grounds

Explore the gardens with their palms, agaves and other exotics.

Walk through the grounds to two sandy beaches. You can sail, kayak, or paddle board from South Sands to North Sands Watch enjoying the view across to Fort Charles.

Take the sea tractor out to the Salcombe ferry, or walk straight out onto the South West Coast Path to work off a Devon cream tea.

There are plenty of buckets, spades and crabbing nets for younger guests to have fun messing around in the rock pools.

If you still have the energy why not enjoy a round of ping pong on the lawn or table football in the Victorian glasshouse?

And since you are back at The Moult enjoy a well-earned sundowner on the belvedere as the sailing boats slip by….

Designed to unwind

Victorian gothic grandeur has been transformed with an elegant twist into a glamorous seaside residence. Play the baby grand piano as you watch the changing light on the Salcombe estuary. Sit back on an oversized sofa and listen to the waves, or link into your own music on the state of the art Sonos audio system.

There are two sensational Bulthaup kitchens for you to create your own feasts, or relax and let an outside chef produce memorable meals for you to eat in the elegant dining room. Why not watch your favourite film in the home cinema after supper, or see how The Moult itself starred in an episode of Poirot?

Stretch out and swim in the glistening heated pool. It’s 22 metres’ long so you have plenty of time to marvel at the incredible views out to sea before changing direction and enjoying the wooded vistas above South Sands.

Whether it’s a chilled glass of wine as sun sets in the summer or a nightcap by a roaring log fire, The Moult enchants throughout the year. Play some ping pong in the games room or table football in the glasshouse or simply put your feet up and grab a board game from the toy cupboard, whatever takes your fancy.

Swimming Pool

Enjoy stunning views over the exotic gardens and Devon coastline from the heated 22 metre pool. There are plenty of sun beds for lounging on the terrace after your swim, or enjoy a peaceful snooze as the waves come and go.

The swimming pool is open and heated all year round.

Living Spaces

Relaxing is the order of the day at The Moult. Stretch out and take it easy.

There are plenty of books to distract you from the views and the Sonos system to hear your favourite music.

You have a choice of sitting rooms so there is space for everyone to find a quiet spot or put the world to rights. Or enjoy the 131 inch screen Dolby sound cinema room, with its velvet sofas, a perfect place to snuggle up and watch a classic film

At the top of the house hides a double volume games room with a punch bag, gym kit, table tennis and board games offering fun and games of a different kind. And just in case, another large TV screen if you can’t agree what to watch downstairs.

Cooking and Dining

The Moult is an exceptional home for entertaining for that special event.

Why not have drinks and canapés on the terrace first? 24 guests can then sit down to a birthday, wedding or anniversary celebration in the elegant dining room with stunning views out to sea.

By day enjoy a long lunch outdoors as the boats sail past. By night, you have the chance of watching the moon glistening over the enchanting estuary.

There are charming cafes and pubs or restaurants to enjoy if you want a change of scene. Take your pick.

Bedrooms

Enjoy one of 12 sumptuous bedrooms and even more bathrooms.

The views here are big and so are the beds. The cotton count is high. The mattresses are hand made and built for comfort.

So after all that sea air you will drifting to sleep listening to the sound of the moon lit waves against the rocks.

Will you have a late start or be first into the pool? Who will be picking up warm croissants from the baker in the morning? Bliss.

The Wing at The Moult

Smaller party? The Wing at The Moult encompasses the same coastal luxury as the main property, but with fewer bedrooms. Take a dip in the heated, 22 metre long swimming pool and soak in the views of the Estuary. And yes, there’s a barbecue close at hand to ensure that those long summer evenings are spent in good company. When night draws in, stay and watch as the moon glistens on the water.

Enjoy sea views from the generously proportioned and fully-fitted kitchen/dining room. While appetites thrive in the fresh estuary air, rigid rules about dining dissolve. If you’re inclined to rustle up a gourmet dinner, the precise, hi-tech Bulthaup kitchen is yours to command.

Inviting books lie around, waiting to be read. Relax in two deeply comfortable reception rooms, one of which doubles as a surround sound cinema room. Unwind with the Sonos audio system, remote-controllable in individual rooms.

The Wing at the Moult sleeps fourteen, where guests can stretch out with six spacious bedrooms. Of the six stylish bedrooms, four have king-size beds and luxurious en suite bathrooms; and the two twins have shared bathrooms.

Salcombe’s rich tapestry

Take the regular ferry (reached by sea tractor) into town to buy those special treats. Designer shops. Salcombe’s own brand of dairy ice cream. Cranch's sweet shop. The Bakehouse for that breakfast croissant or chocolate brownie. A swim in the sea offers a bracing alternative to the heated pool. Kayak and paddle boarding lessons are offered by Sea Kayak Salcombe (beginners welcomed). Crabbing in the rock pools beneath The Moult or by the ruined castle on North Sands. And you can follow the flight of butterflies in the Overbecks subtropical National Trust gardens. And if you have been tempted by the episode of Hercule Poirot filmed at The Moult, make the journey to Agatha Christie's house in Dittisham, take the steamer onto Dartmouth or take in the Aquarium in Plymouth.
